High Seas Expedition
June 14-18, 2010, 9am – Noon
Children who have completed Kindergarten through Fifth Grade are invited!
Welcome to High Seas Expedition, where your kids will explore the Mighty love of God! Get ready for a swashbuckling adventure through God’s Word, and discover that God shows his powerful love throughout Scripture.
High Seas Expedition is awash with fun. Each day, kids participate in small groups, called Crews, and dive into the Bible! Not only will they experience amazing Bible adventures but they‘ll also watch for God in everyday life through something called God SightingsTM. Children will discover that God is active in our lives and that his fingerprints are everywhere!
High Seas Expedition is filled with incredible Bible-learning experiences kids will see, hear, touch, and even taste! Bible Point crafts, team-building games, cool Bible songs, and tasty treats are just a few of the High Seas Expedition activities that help faith flow into real life.
Grace Hills Baptist Church will host the acappella singing group “Just Us” from the Fork Union area on Sunday evening, June 13, at 5:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. “Just Us” sings with a pure, upbeat sound and with obvious pleasure–they love praising God and leading worship through music. After they sing, we will all fellowship together and share refreshments. Please come and join us for this music event at Grace Hills, located on Pumping Station Road just outside the town of Appomattox.
Sparks Mission Projects
The children’s Sparks groups, which contain children ranging from 3 years old to 5th graders, have worked on a different mission project each month this year. In September 2009, the children collected snacks for school age children and donated them to Appomattox Primary School. In October, the children brought in candy for Trunk-or-Treating and labeled the candy with special messages, like “God loves you!” Items were collected for care packages and shipped to two local troops deployed over seas in November. Christmas cards were sent to church shut-ins in December. The children brought in money for Children’s Heart Project sponsored by Samaritan’s Purse in January 2010.
The Children’s Heart Project funds heart surgeries for children in need around the world. In February, the children and our youth group collected diapers and wipes to be distributed by Gleaning for the World for the victims of the Haiti earthquake. The Sparks groups collected and shipped socks and underwear to the Standing Rock Reservation in March. In April, the children assisted Tyler Peterson’s project and brought in toys and games for patients at the UVA Children’s Hospital.
Lastly, the children collected new and gently-used stuffed animals to donate to Gleaning for the World’s Teddy Bear Brigade in May. The Teddy Bear Brigade is a mission project that sends stuffed animals to children around the world who have experienced natural disasters or poverty. The children who participate in Sparks have done a phenomenal job this year with local missions and missions that impact others around the world.
Sparks meets at GHBC from September to May on the second and fourth Wednesdays from 6:45 to 7:45. Be sure to join us in the fall for more opportunities to learn about missions and experience missions on a local, national, and global level.
